Appraising Digital Storytelling across Educational Contexts

The impact of digital storytelling all over the world cannot be disputed. It has become the perfect bridge between both traditional and new ways of engaging the creation and transmission of stories and has been successfully implemented across social and educational contexts. This volume brings together a selection of articles that explore such implementation in various educational fields and levels from kindergarten to university, and also in programmes of continuing education throughout the world. While presenting creative experiences and contributing practical advice, the articles also share a common methodological drive: they collect and appraise objective data to show how digital storytelling practices are a strong asset to the 21st century classroom. Each article critically explores the key role played by digital storytelling activities in the development and strengthening of multimodal literacies, cognitive engagement, creativity, research and information handling, communicative skills in a foreign language, self-confidence, and collaborative learning, among others. All in all, digital storytelling projects foster the creation of peer-assisted learning communities and also becomes a valuable resource to teachers seeking to revitalize their pedagogical practice.

L'impacte de la narració digital d'històries a tot el món és indiscutible. S'ha convertit en el pont perfecte entre les formes tradicionals i les noves formes de comprometre la creació i transmissió d'històries i s'ha implementat amb èxit en tots els contextos socials i educatius. Aquest volum reuneix una selecció d'articles que exploren aquesta implementació en diversos camps i nivells educatius des del jardí d'infància fins a la universitat, i també en programes d'educació contínua a tot el món. Al mateix temps que presenten experiències creatives i aporten consells pràctics, els articles també comparteixen un impuls metodològic comú: recopilen i avaluen dades objectives per mostrar com les pràctiques de narració d'històries digitals són un actiu important per a l'aula del segle XXI. Cada article explora críticament el paper clau que juguen les activitats de narració digital en el desenvolupament i enfortiment de l'alfabetització multimodal, el compromís cognitiu, la creativitat, la recerca i el maneig de la informació, les habilitats comunicatives en un idioma estranger, la confiança en si mateix i l'aprenentatge col·laboratiu, entre uns altres. En definitiva, els projectes digitals de narració de contes fomenten la creació de comunitats d'aprenentatge assistides per parells i també es converteixen en un recurs valuós per als professors que busquen revitalitzar la seva pràctica pedagògica.
