African American Women's Literature in Spain

This volume brings forward a descriptive approach to the translation and reception of African American women’s literature in Spain. Drawing from a multidisciplinary theoretical and methodological framework, it traces the translation history of literature produced by African American women, seeking to uncover changing strategies in translation policies as well as shifts in interests in the target context, and it examines the topicality of this cohort of authors as frames of reference for Spanish critics and reviewers. Likewise, the reception of the source literature in the Spanish context is described by reconstructing the values that underlie judgements in different reception sources. Finally, this book addresses the specific problem of the translation of Black English into Spanish. More precisely, it pays attention to the ideological and the ethical implications of translation choices and the effect of the latter on the reception of literary texts.

Este volumen presenta un enfoque descriptivo de la traducción y recepción de la literatura de mujeres afroamericanas en España. Partiendo de un marco teórico y metodológico multidisciplinar, traza la historia de la traducción de la literatura producida por mujeres afroamericanas, tratando de descubrir estrategias cambiantes en las políticas de traducción, así como cambios de intereses en el contexto de destino, y examina la actualidad de esta cohorte de autoras como marco de referencia para críticos y reseñadores españoles. Asimismo, se describe la recepción de la literatura de partida en el contexto español mediante la reconstrucción de los valores que subyacen a los juicios en diferentes fuentes de recepción. Por último, aborda el problema específico de la traducción del inglés afroamericano al español. Más concretamente, presta atención a las implicaciones ideológicas y éticas de las opciones de traducción y el efecto de estas últimas en la recepción de textos literarios.
